1968 - In January, Fr James Kierce gathered a group of volunteers to set up plans for our Parish School. Work commenced on the building on 10 August, 1968. This was a mammoth task as all of the work was done by parishioners - from digging to blasting rocks, connecting plumbing, doing electrics, painting and plastering. Taking 293 working days to construct, the school was ready for its first intake in December 1971
1972 - In January, the school opened with 171 children. Sr Frances Fraser, a Josephite Sister, was the founding Principal.
1974 - The school changed over to the Sisters of Charity under the leadership of Sr Pamela McFarlane.
1978 - 425 children were attending St Leo's School. Sr Pauline Nicholson was the new Principal. During all this time various extensions were added to the school.
1979 - The first lay Principal Mr Peter Suhr was appointed, and in that year the school reached its peak enrolment of 450 students.
1983 - Miss Margaret Fogarty was appointed Principal and the enrolment was 433 children.
1986 - The school was in the spotlight as it was selected to host a classroom visit from His Holiness Pope John Paul II. Also in that year Daniel Duane (a Grade 6 student) designed the school emblem of two hands to represent the Pope's Mitre; the school also adopted the motto, "Unity is Strength".
1991 - Mr John Glaubitz was appointed Principal and initiated plans for refurbishment, to include an administration building and library.
1994 -In June Mr Chris Walsh was appointed Principal and supervised the building program which was completed in 1996 and officially opened in August 1996 by Fr Peter O'Rourke.
1999 - The St Leo community was saddened by the death of Mrs Margaret Stone. Margaret had served the school as secretary since 1977, therefore sharing 22 years of her life with the school community.
2003 - Mr Ryan commenced as Principal and a minor refurbishment of the buildings was completed.
2007 - Construction of the new St Leo the Great Parish Church.
2008 - State winner of the "Show your support" animation movie for the 2008 Australian Olympic team.
2009 - New synthetic running track was installed.
2010 - Construction of new school hall.
2022 - Mrs Trish Abela retired from St Leo’s. The school library has been named The Patricia Abela Library in honour of her 44 years of service to our school.
